The Music Ministry of First Baptist Congregational Church has a rich history dating back to the organization of the church in 1944.

Since the days of yesteryear our Music Ministry has expanded tremendously. We presently have over ten ministries that have developed under this ministry, this includes :

Celestial Choir
First United Chorus
Gospel Chorus
Inspirational Choir
Male  Chorus
Praise Dancers
Praise Team
Primary Church Choir
Sanctuary Choir
Young Adult Choir

The repertoire of  our Music Ministry is a blessing indeed, we are one of only a few churches in the city of Chicago that offers the variation of music to it’s congregation that we share.

Sister Anna McCrory Allen was the first choir director of the old Mozart Baptist Church.  She organized the Senior Choir (now Sanctuary Choir) a few weeks after the church was organized.  She was the first director of the choir. She served until 1957 just before Rev. Arthur D. Griffin became the pastor. The choir increased in membership under her direction and had a repertoire of anthems, spirituals and hymns.

Mother McCrory-Allen was the wife of the founding pastor, Rev. Henry McCrory as well as a founding member of the church.   She was a noted soprano who sang extensively.  She gave a vocal recitals downtown every year. She was every bit a diva with outstanding stage presence.  Allen Hall in our church is named after her. We are grateful to her for the groundwork that she laid for our present Sanctuary Choir.  Mother Allen also served as president of the Missionary Society of  our church from 1944 to 1959.

We proudly celebrate the history of this music heritage that began over six decades ago.

As we continue this series we will spotlight each singing aggregation and praise dance ministry as well as celebrate the individual contributions of each in the service of the Lord in the past and the present!

“Make Joyful Noise Unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness,: come before his presence with singing...
